White Oak Fundraiser
An East Texas High School decided to give cancer the boot last month in honor of those in their community who have battled the disease, including three of their very own White Oak ISD students who are all cancer survivors and were Children’s Health℠ patients by participating in the 2022-2023 Texas Association of Student Councils State Service Project, Kick Cancer campaign.
The White Oak High School Student Council collected money in cowboy boots at two of their varsity football games to donate part of the proceeds to Children’s Medical Center Foundation.
White Oak High School student, and Children’s Health patient, Olivia, age 14, received treatment for two and a half years for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. When asked how she’s doing, she said “It’s going good. It’s a lot better now that it’s all over.” White Oak High School’s Art Teacher and Student Council Advisor, Kim Taylor, accompanied Olivia during her interview, and enthusiastically mentioned, “They’re all 3 in remission!” referring to Olivia and her fellow White Oak student survivors. Olivia’s hope is that her school’s donation will help cancer research and families.
Children’s Health values all efforts and contributions made to its patients, programs and staff, and when our patients give back, it truly reinforces our mission and reminds us of why we do what we do.
