Troy Aikman

'We all have a soft spot for kids.’

Troy Aikman is known for calling kids at Children’s Health the real heroes.

“In the sports world, we use terms like ‘tough’ and ‘heroic’ to talk about athletes, but it pales in comparison to these kids,” he said. “To me, they’re the remarkable ones in the way they shine in the face of some really difficult situations.”

For decades, Troy has been inspired by these kids to give back, funding hospital playrooms when he was a young professional football player before he had kids of his own and supporting pediatric cancer research. (By the way, he’s still fighting for that win over childhood cancer.)

Since his early Dallas Cowboys days, he’s been an advocate for pediatric health care in the community, devoting time to visiting patients at their bedside and attending the lighting of the Christmas tree at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

More recently, Troy has used his voice to support the future growth of Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center, standing side-by-side fellow athletes and donors at the groundbreaking in 2024 of the new Dallas pediatric campus and hosting an event in May to celebrate construction for the hospital that will enhance care for the smallest members of our community.

I’m happy to be associated with this new hospital and all the families who have already stepped up and given so much,. People in my family have devoted their lives to health care, so I understand the importance of it. If you’re going to have a strong community, you’ve got to have a great children’s hospital.

Troy

Earlier this year, Troy made a personal investment through a generous donation supporting the new campus. Over the decades, he’s watched Dallas grow and understands the advancements needed to care for a growing pediatric population in North Texas and beyond. And at this point, that means a new campus equipped with the latest in technology and more space.

“Our community rallies around children, so every little bit helps. It adds up,” Troy said. “We all have a soft spot for kids and hope we can provide some relief during painful moments.”
