Over the last 13 years, Spirit Halloween has raised more than $2.7 million for the Child Life program at Children’s Health and brought many smiles throughout the hospital.

Meet Samantha, the 2026 Children's Health Spirit Halloween Champion

Years ago, Samantha's grandmother packed up her car and left California for North Texas in search of answers about her granddaughter's worsening kidney problems.

For years, physicians at another hospital had treated Samantha, but a misdiagnosis led to therapies that severely damaged her kidneys — eventually requiring both to be removed. Soon after, Samantha developed heart failure and was referred to Children's Health in Dallas for more specialized care. Ultimately, she received both a new heart and a new kidney, surrounded by her care team that became like family.

Today, more than three years later, Samantha is thriving, swimming and dressing up in costumes. She even calls herself “Halloween Girl,” a nickname inspired by her love of dress-up and the hospital staff who helped bring joy and normalcy to her journey.

Participate in the Virtual Pumpkin Contest

All Spirit Halloween stores are invited to participate in our 6th annual Spirit Halloween Virtual Pumpkin Contest. All entries will be streamed on the Red Balloon Network, our internal television network, and patients will vote on the winner. The winning store will receive a sweet treat!

To participate, send no more than two pictures per entry to brooklyn.goeglein@childrens.com no later than Oct. 20 with the store location and primary contact in the email. Please ensure that one picture is a close up of the pumpkin and one is of the store team with the pumpkin.
