A 2015 car accident left Braden McCollum needing two surgeries in his first two hours at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. His mother, Tiffanie Williams, said, “I immediately just started kissing him and holding his hand and telling him mommy was here, and it was going to be OK.” Braden, then 7 years old, had a broken femur and serious trauma to his head. His injuries were severe, but his care was excellent; he was able to go home in just six days. After making a full recovery, Braden started thinking of others. When it came time to plan his birthday party, Braden told his mother he had already received so many gifts from his hospitalization that it might be better to make a donation. “I told her that maybe I could do car seats this year instead of presents just to give back to Children’s since they helped me,” said Braden, now 9 years old and in fourth grade.
