Miracle Day Radiothon

Inspired by patients like Katie, Radiothon listeners roll in with more than $350,000 in donations

Katie was born with chronic lung disease and spent the first eight months of her life in the hospital and then on a ventilator at home for another eight months until she suddenly “got so sick so fast,” said her mother, Eva Kramer. She was rushed to Children’s Medical Center Dallas, where she tested positive for respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, a serious and sometimes life-threatening infection.

One year later, mom and Katie returned to Children’s Medical Center to share their “miracle” story live at the 2017 Miracle Day Radiothon, presented by Neighborhood Credit Union. The annual event, held Dec. 8, raised a total of $351,855. In partnership with Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals, iHeartMedia’s KDGE, Star 102.1 FM, broadcast live from the hospital. Additional Miracle Day Radiothon sponsors included Albertsons/Tom Thumb, Granite Properties, AT&T, Cisco and The Residences at Rough Creek Lodge.

The Children's Trust

The Children’s Trust gives big

This past year, The Children’s Trust raised $100,000 for Children’s Health, bringing the total raised since its establishment in 2002 to more than $1.5 million. A unique aspect of The Trust is that members vote on which programs to support each year. Called the Big Give, this annual event provides members the opportunity to personalize their giving by learning about areas in need.

This year, The Trust provided funding for the Teen Recovery Program – the only outpatient program of its kind in North Texas for adolescents ages 13 to 18 who require treatment for a mental health disorder.

The Trust is also supporting the Emergency Department renovation and expansion. The only pediatric Level 1 Trauma Center in North Texas, the Children’s Medical Center Dallas ED is also the second busiest pediatric emergency care facility in the country.

And, lastly, The Trust supported the implementation of Building Hope, a remote care and patient engagement platform designed to improve the wellness tracking of each patient discharged from The Heart Center between follow-up visits.
