Message From Our President
Welcome to our website and thank you for your interest in the Legacy Chapter of the Women’s Auxiliary to Children’s Medical Center Plano.
We are proud to be part of one of the top pediatric health care systems in the country. Children’s is well into its second century, and the Women’s Auxiliary is approaching 55 years of community leaders sharing the mission to make like better for children. In 2008 Children’s Medical Center opened its Plano campus, which extended its world class service to the increasing number of families north of Dallas and beyond. A year later, our vibrant Auxiliary began supporting the hospital through volunteer programs and fundraising efforts.
Our programing efforts support Children’s patients, families and hospital staff in a variety of ways. Auxiliary members make patients and families as comfortable as possible through distribution of basic necessity items from our support cart; they alleviate fear by providing every child requiring surgery a bear to hug that is also a cuddly learning tool to demonstrate upcoming procedures; members provide comfort and security through production and distribution of no-sew blankets for patients; and throughout the year they encourage and recognize Children’s staff members for their tireless dedication and commitment to the patients they serve.
Over the past seven years our relatively young Auxiliary has successfully raised and given over $700,000 to Children’s Medical Center Plano. The majority of these funds were raised by our dedicated special events committee members, who work tirelessly on our very successful Legacy of Love Benefit and Fashion Show. This benefit is becoming a signature Spring fundraiser within our community. Not only did the event exceed expectations, it also raised all funds needed to cover the annual costs associated with Flora, a loveable golden retriever, who made her debut this year in our beloved Pet Therapy program.
The dollars we raise play an essential role in enhancing and sustaining vitally important programs for the hospital. Again this year the Auxiliary will financially support the Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders; the Center for Pediatric Eating Disorders; the Children’s Medical Center Research Institute at UT Southwestern; and the Patient and Family Support Services for Indigent Care. The Auxiliary’s commitment to support hospital needs and help provide innovative equipment to maintain a high quality of care for young patients was the impetus behind the Legacy Chapter creating an endowment to support the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
I am honored to serve as the 2016-2017 president of the Legacy Chapter of the Women’s Auxiliary to Children’s Medical Center Plano. Our dedicated members look forward to an exciting year filled with new opportunities as the hospital continues to expand and provide much-needed specialized care for the young children in our community.
