Message From Our President
It is my honor to serve as the 2017-2018 President of the Dallas Chapter of the Women’s Auxiliary to Children’s Medical Center. For nearly 60 years, the Women’s Auxiliary has supported the incredible life-changing and life-saving care that Children’s provides to patients every day. Last year alone, the hospital served nearing 280,000 patients from across our region and beyond, truly fulfilling its mission to make life better for children. We are so fortunate to have this amazing resource in our community. If you’ve ever had a child, grandchild, niece or nephew at Children’s – or maybe you were once a patient yourself – you know this is a very special place!
Providing world-class care takes substantial resources, and the dedicated doctors, nurses and staff can’t do it alone. That’s where the passionate and committed members of the Women’s Auxiliary come in! Our members and volunteers raise funds to support critical needs at the hospital so that Children’s can continue to provide the best care possible and a warm experience to patients and their families. The Auxiliary’s fundraisers have become annual traditions in the Dallas community, and this year we are particularly excited about celebrating the 50th anniversary of Family Night at Six Flags, the return of Sundaes on Sunday at American Girl, and celebrating the holiday season at Breakfast with Santa in the newly renovated Adolphus Hotel. We are always looking for volunteers to help plan and organize these wonderful events, as well as the Auxiliary’s other programs, which support patients, families and hospital staff. Our volunteers decorate the hospital with festive wreaths during the holiday season, serve dinner to patient families on New Year’s Eve and Mother’s Day weekend, provide monthly snacks baskets in Critical Care Unit waiting areas, and deliver seasonal treats for staff appreciation. In addition to fundraising and volunteering, our spring and fall membership meetings offer a great opportunity to learn more about various departments across the system and amazing advances in pediatric health care.
Last year, the Dallas Chapter of the Auxiliary raised more than $644,000 to support crucial programs and services at Children’s. Our funding supported the Heart Center, Pet Therapy, Family Support Services, Clinical Research and Transport Services. We also provided important financial support for the new Teen Recovery Program, which will serve adolescents with substance abuse and mental health needs, as well as the new Comprehensive Gait and Mobility Program at Our Children’s House.
I hope you will want to get involved, and encourage you to explore our website to learn more about our annual events and membership opportunities. Whether you serve on a committee, volunteer, make a donation, come for a tour, or make a purchase in the hospital gift shop, there are many ways to get involved – both big and small! I look forward to working with you over the next year and continuing the great tradition of the Women’s Auxiliary by being champions for Children’s.
Thank you for your support!
