The Junior Leadership Board

The mission of the Junior Leadership Board (JLB) is to connect high school students with Children’s Health (Children’s) through volunteering, fundraising, and learning about careers in a pediatric, not-for-profit, health system.

About Us

The board serves as support to Children’s Foundation Board of Trustees and is comprised of students from a variety of Dallas and Collin County high schools. The board term runs from September to May, and meets regularly over the course of the school year, typically once per month on Sunday afternoons from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Board members are expected to attend board meetings, volunteer at special events for the hospital, help fundraise and encourage others to become involved. Additionally, board members will philanthropically benefit Children’s by providing a personal contribution of at least twenty-five dollars at the start of their term and, collectively as a board, raise funds for the hospital.

In addition to helping in the hospital’s playrooms and participating in board meetings, members are also given the chance to volunteer at events such as Children’s Red Balloon Run & Ride, Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremonies in Plano and Dallas, and the Children Helping Children Junior Tennis Tournament.

Over the past six years, the JLB has raised approximately $85,000 for the hospital through events and in-kind contributions.

During the first year of the JLB, eighteen board members raised $5,200. Now in its 7th year, the JLB has two boards, one for each campus, with a total of 65 board members. Furthermore, board members serving during the 2015-2016 term raised more than $25,000 and invested their funds to create an endowment supporting Children’s Research Institute at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Events & Activities in 2016-2017

This year’s activities include Children’s Mum Ribbon sales (visit ), in-kind collection, and the JLB’s Red Balloon Run & Ride team called “Teens for Children’s”.
