Message From Our President
It is a privilege to serve as the 2016-2017 president of the Dallas Chapter of the Women’s Auxiliary to Children’s Medical Center. What an amazing hospital! My volunteer journey with Children’s started 10 years ago when my daughter was admitted for heart surgery. The care she received, as well as the thoughtful attention given to our family, was exceptional. Our story is only one of the many success stories that Children’s creates every day of the year. Last year alone, Children’s served over 280,000 patients. The mission of Children’s Medical Center is to make life better for children. The Women’s Auxiliary has been here for 55 years to assist in that endeavor.
The passionate and committed members of the Women’s Auxiliary raise funds, serve as advocates and volunteer at the hospital. The Auxiliary fundraisers are annual traditions in the Dallas community, and include Breakfast with Santa, Holiday Cards, Sundaes on Sunday and Family Night at Six Flags. Assistance is always needed on these fun committees, and it is a great way to meet new friends. There are also a variety of programs to support patient families and hospital staff. Volunteers are welcome to tie on an apron and serve Mother’s Day and New Year’s Eve dinners for families staying in the hospital, provide monthly snacks baskets for critical care waiting areas, and deliver seasonal treats for staff appreciation. When the holidays arrive, there are opportunities to decorate the hospital halls with festive wreaths and trees. Finally, in addition to fundraising and volunteering, we have two general membership meetings a year with amazing speakers from Children’s, one of the largest and most esteemed pediatric hospitals in the U.S. Last year we learned from specialists in the Food Allergy Center, the Andrew’s Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, and the Children’s Medical Center Research Institute at UT Southwestern.
In 2015-2016, the Dallas Chapter of the Auxiliary raised more than $610,000 to support crucial programs, including the Children’s Research Institute, the Suicide Prevention and Resilience at Children’s Program (SPARC), the Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, the Referral and Evaluation of At-Risk Children Clinic (REACH), the Heart Center, pastoral care, pet therapy, Patient Care Concierge and the Women’s Auxiliary Scholarship Fund. We also fulfilled our annual commitment to the Dallas Women’s Auxiliary Family Endowment established last year, which benefits Family Support Services.
